LOCAL LITERACY PROJECT:
REACH OUT & READ KC

RO&R KC gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. The club supports RO&R with volunteers for events and donating books that are given out at area pediatric clinics and local impact grants from the Pi Beta Phi Foundation to provide 500 new books. PI PHI VOLUNTEERS also spend time reading to children in clinic waiting rooms and serve on the RO&RKC board of directors.

LOCAL LITERACY PROJECT:R.E.A.D. DOGSThe R.E.A.D. program’s mission is to improve children’s reading skills by employing a powerful method: reading to an animal.  This long-time club program at Brighton Gardens senior living center in Prairie Village brings together school children and senior citizens who read to specially-trained dogs. Led by MT Alpha/KS Alpha SALLY STUART, Pi Phi volunteers help with the program and snacks.
